About
Born in the Midlands town of Rugby, Laura Jane Kauffman has been singing all her life. On her 14th birthday she picked up an old guitar and proceeded to compose her first song. Since then she has built up an impressive catalogue of original material. In September 2003 Laura relocated to Houston, Texas. In between travels to Louisiana, Florida and New York City, she has appeared at several Houston music venues including McGonigel’s Mucky Duck, the Cosmos Club and JP’s Hops House. She was a featured artist on the KPFT HAAM radio show, opened for ‘Southtrak’ and Jason Consolacion at Ovations nightclub in Rice Village and was delighted to guest at the legendary Anderson Fair.
Laura has independently recorded and produced five CD’s to date: ‘Late Night Conversation’ (2003) and ‘Late Night Conversation (Part II)’ (2004), a four track “Texan” sampler, ‘Houston to Brighton‘ (2006), ‘If You Knew Me Better‘ (2008). Each offers an eclectic mix of highly personal yet universal thoughts and emotions which showcase her unique song writing talent while at the same time reflecting the unmistakable influences of folk, jazz and country.
Since her arrival on the Brighton music scene Laura Jane Kauffman has quickly established a solid reputation as a popular and polished performer at local venues such as the Western Front, the Sanctuary, the Providence, the Ranelagh and Joogleberry Playhouse where she has made two appearances to date as part of the Brighton Fringe. In October 2006 she was a finalist in the Sussex-based Song Factor competition. She was delighted to support Texan buddy and fast-rising Americana star, Hayes Carll, on the first night of his 2008 European Tour and more recently opened for Willy Vlautin (Richmond Fontaine) at The Basement. Working life permitting, Laura can often be heard at The Brunswick and The Druid’s Head, Brighton and will re-unite with Houston musical soul-mate, Jason Consolacion, at a gig in NYC October 24th.
